You may or may not have seen this picture circulating around the internet, but it has got to be one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I wish I knew where the idea originated, so that I can give them credit, but unfortunately, I wasn’t about to find out.

To whoever our unknown genius is, thank you for this amazingly clever idea.

All he/she did to convert their rustic wooden picnic table into a picnic table/cooler, was to remove a center plank and insert a metal rain gutter. Then cut the removed plank to fill any gaps and replaced it.

All you have to do is fill the gutter with ice and voila! – a built-in cooler!

With the weather cooling down (at least where I’m at – I hear that’s not the case back home) I’m getting ready to dust off the ‘ole soup pot. When you can’t get outside to grill, a big pot of chili or stew is a great substitute.

This recipe from OrganicGardening.com is a great twist on your classic chili. Using chunk chicken and a creamy sauce, it’s a lighter option than your standard beef chili, but still manages to pack a spicy punch. I like my chili to clear my sinuses, so I add an 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper and substitute one of the cans of white beans for red kidney (for texture), but you can mix it up however you like or prepare it as is.

Summer’s Officially Over!

That’s right, summer is officially over and fall is here.

If you ask me, fall was here two weeks ago when I had to pull my sweater out of the closet just to walk around the house.

The good thing about the arrival of fall is that it brings with it all kinds of goodies – pumpkin ales, football and pecan pie are among the best.
